The Complete Games Trainers Play, Volume II ReviewAlthough I was skeptical about this title, I decided to go ahead and buy it. Well, I was not diappointed! I found that the amount of information provided was beyond my wildest dreams. You DO have to do some digging within the book, but I have used SEVERAL of the ideas and feel that my meetingas are more focused and on track than ever. Especially when it comes to technical trainings (which I do!), the book gives a grat deal of info regarding training issues and how to keep people interested!The Complete Games Trainers Play, Volume II Overview

Timing in the Fighting Arts: Your Guide to Winning in the Ring and Surviving on the Street ReviewWhether you are looking to win a tournament or survive on the street Christensen and Demeere offer solid, easy to understand advice that is well worth following. This excellent tome starts with the nuts and bolts of timing including Hick's law and Boyd's cycle (the Observation-Orientation-Decision-Action loop), explaining these important concepts without a lot of scientific jargon or excess verbiage. From there they go into specific techniques and case studies to help you put these concepts to practical use. There are also some enlightening vignettes from Tai Chi Chuan, The Art of War, and the Book of Five Rings. Their down to earth writing style is refreshing and entertaining. The various examples, stories, and tips make the book fun to read. Even better, the drills and practice scenarios quickly take you beyond the theory to improve your skills in a meaningful way. This book along with Speed Training (by Christensen) is a winning combination that can help any martial artist. I heartily recommend it.

This book spells out the "right way" and what a great way to start. Safety is stressed - the basics are covered. If you or a friend wants to get started with horses this is definitely the book to start with. Once you know this book read the C manual - if you know all that you will be ready for just about anything. King of the Ring: How to Use Your Gym Equipment and Other Tricks of the Trade ReviewThis book, written by martial arts legend Benny Urquidez, consists mainly of pictures of Benny using various boxing and martial arts equipment. But there is very little detail provided: a typical page might show, for instance, the author about to throw a side kick, and then a picture of him landing a side kick, but there is virtually no supporting text or pictures to tell a beginner what happens inbetween. In short, the book shows A and shows B, but nothing about how to get from A to B.
This would be a worthwhile book for someone who already has a firm knowledge of the basics and who is looking for some additional drills: I found that the section on using focus gloves and Thai pads was worth the price of the book.
The book ends with a longish description of Urquidez's extraordinary ring record.
A final note: the book is "blurbed" on the back page by virtually every significant American martial artist, all of whom positively gush in praise. It seems clear to me that none of them actually saw or read the book before "blurbing" it: it is very far from being "a guide to living" as one reviewer put it.King of the Ring: How to Use Your Gym Equipment and Other Tricks of the Trade Overview
