Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook (Weight Watchers (Wiley Publishing)) ReviewI got this for my wife as a Christmas gift and she really liked it for a few different reasons. For one, it has the updated program information in it and goes along those lines, so she liked that. It also is set up nice with good strong pages and sort of a spiral book set-up. One review I read called this book more of a folder, which I have to totally disagree. This thing is about 1.5 inches thick and is well made. I have no doubt this can survive a lot of cooking in the kitchen. I am not the one that does most of the cooking so I can't comment totally on some aspects, but it was well received and seems to be the right price. I think I paid around $15 on this site.Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook (Weight Watchers (Wiley Publishing)) Overview

Harry Potter, Narnia, and The Lord of the Rings: What You Need to Know About Fantasy Books and Movies ReviewHarry Potter, Narnia, and the Lord of the Rings by Richard Abanes is a dissection of three of the greatest fantasy phenomena around today. Is fantasy harmful? Can we learn from it? Are there different types? How does fantasy affect us?
These are just a few of the questions Abanes answers in his informative book. As a mildly interested reader and watcher of fantasy, this book surprised me as it disclosed the impact that reading or observing fantasy can have on a person--especially a child or teenager. Yet parents are often very lax in supervising what their children read or watch, resulting in a decline in morals as well as an increasing interest in the occult.
Abanes compares the three above-named fantasies to show what each is preaching or teaching. With the Narnia and Lord of the Rings series, he shows how Christian values and morals can be taught through the fantasy medium.
With Harry Potter, he raises a few questions. Some in the Christian arena have said it teaches Christian morals. Abanes disputes this by asking: Do we have a clear-cut example of good and bad in Harry Potter? How can we call the hero "good" and yet watch Harry lie, cheat, and steal? What about all the occult spells and paraphernalia explored in the books?
In the last chapters, he shows how television and movies are delving more and more into the occult, including horror movies and even prime-time weekly television programs. "Children are big imitators," asserts Abanes. Many of the crimes being perpetrated today--especially by children and teenagers--are copycats of scenes watched in movies or television.
Harry Potter, Narnia, and The Lord of the Rings is enlightening while remaining highly readable. Abanes challenges Christian authors and pastors in a friendly way, but calls us all to be discerning of what we put before our children and grandchildren. ..Harry Potter, Narnia, and The Lord of the Rings: What You Need to Know About Fantasy Books and Movies Overview

With This Ring ReviewOn one hand, it definitely was a page turner. I was hooked to the characters and the story flowed very well. I felt what the characters felt; the good, the bad, and the ugly.
On the other hand, I don't know if I liked the ending. There were some loose ends that I wish had been tied up, but I don't want to put any spoilers.
I would recommend this book because, even after hours after putting my Kindle down, I'm still thinking about Amy, Sam, and Justin and I think that is a good sign that the author did her job in making the characters feel real.
Side note- I also read her book Betting on Love, and I enjoyed it was well. I can see myself reading more of her books in the future. With This Ring OverviewA Love for All Time . . .They came from different worlds. If the Ring Fits (Harlequin Special Edition) ReviewI bought this book for the plot description, assuming it was my first Kirk. Realized later I HAD read her previously, but evidently that other book had not stood out in any way. (It was before I started posting reviews, so I only had my memory to depend on . . . )
I enjoyed this one, mostly. I liked the heroine, although I didn't always buy her as a mother of young boys. She managed an unbelievable amount of child-free time for a mother of three toddlers. I thought she was stronger in her relationship with the hero than she was in her role as mother. I liked that he was not this overwhelming alpha, calling all the shots. I would have preferred if we had some interaction with his large family, but I suppose there was already a sizeable supporting cast between their friends and her family. And I really liked that the two leads had managed a Friends-with-Benefits relationship for three years without falling into angsty If-Onlies.
But there was a lack of emotional connect with these characters. It stopped my whole-hearted endorsement. There were quite a few instances of remembering past scenes, to illustrate that they had all known each other for years - in some cases, since childhood. But I never really FELT the intimacy, or that they even knew each other that well. I ended up spending time with these people in my head, not my heart.
And I always appreciate some humor in books with families, and that was missing here.
Bottom line, I will read another Kirk. And this book is priced right for you to decide for yourself. If the Ring Fits (Harlequin Special Edition) Overview

Ring the Change ReviewI enjoy stories with transgendered characters and Tanya's writing is good in that the story stands on it's own without getting carried away with superficial things such as clothing, makeup, etc. This would be good thriller even without the TG twist to the story.Ring the Change OverviewImagine the value of a personal protective force-field in a combat situation. Professor Standing had more than imagined it, he'd actually made one, or had very nearly completed it. The only problem was that of funding. The MOD had lost patience and the funding was going to be stopped, so the professor was looking at alternative sources of finance.Enter ex-Sgt. Curly Curtis, late of the SAS. He is assigned the task of infiltrating the plant and acquiring all information before it leaves the country, destined to potentially hostile powers. However, the system isn't perfect and there's an accident in the lab. Curtis's last awareness before blacking out was of someone saying that his face was melting. A week later, a young woman wakes in hospital two hundred miles away with no memory of who she is or how she got there. The amnesia doesn't last, but with recall come some unique problems. Join her on her struggle to find herself and to finish the job that Rob Curtis was assigned.
