2007 Florida Building Code - Residential ReviewI ordered this and received a binder with 13 sheets of paper in it. I call to explain they must have made a mistake, that 13 sheets of paper could not cost 94 dollars, then return for an exchange. I get my second package and it's the same thing. A Laurfleming Mys: Dead Ring (A Laura Fleming Mystery) ReviewI bought this book while we were traveling. I thought that it would pass the time, and it did. The books atmosphere is great. There is great dialogue which seems like you really are in North Carolina. It is a good mystery that leaves a lot of people dead and has a very twisted ending. I couldn't figure it out, but I am not a detective either. The book runs smoothly and makes you want to read it through out the day. Ring of Fear (Quickreads) ReviewSaddleback Educational Publishing has come up with a brilliant concept for solving a very serious problem: the great decline in reading among today's students. Their solution? Make assigned reading materials exciting! Their Quickreads books are essentially individually printed short stories, designed to entice even the least motivated students into reading.
This confronts both of the major problems with more traditional readers: if they are not mind-numbingly dull, they are excruciatingly didactic, cramming some important "teachings" whether moral, religious, or (these days) politically correct down the throats of children so hard as to turn them off of reading for good.
Jack Mallahan has been lame from birth. Still, he doesn't let that get him down or keep him from living like he wants to, though it DOES make him rather shy with women. He also doesn't let it prevent him from being the hero of this story about finding something he shouldn't have. My initial fears about this being a PC sob-story were mercifully misplaced.
Plus, for what they are intended to be, reading textbooks, they are wonderful. The fact that students who learn to read better and to love reading from these books may soon find them skimpy fare for pleasure reading is not entirely bad, assuming their teachers quickly move them on to bigger and better things in the school library or the bookstore if necessary.

The Lord of the Rings Instrumental Solos: Clarinet (Book & CD) ReviewIf you have a middle shooler in band that loves the Lord of the Rings Movies and plays clarinet, this book will get them playing more. The tape helps if you are an ear musician.
Our only reservation was about how the clarinet is generally buried in the original score and how it would sound as a solo instrument. Basically, there are some numbers where the clarinet picks up a solo by an oboe or flute but they picked songs where it works, along with some pieces they feature that sound like they have clarinet in them orginally. The rohan and black rider songs in particular sound kind of exotic with the clarinet featured as a solo piece.
If your kid watches the movies over and over, probably this book will get them more stoked about band, but my kid practices a lot anyway, so it's hard to say.The Lord of the Rings Instrumental Solos: Clarinet (Book & CD) Overview

England and Always: Tolkien's World of the Rings ReviewProfessor Lobdell has done an outstanding job in presenting the writings of JRR Tolkien in light of his background, his professional scholarship, and his Catholicism. The essays show insight without "overreading" the works. The best essay is "The Timeless Moment", which describes in detail how Tolkien's Christianity pervades his works without becoming "preachy".
