Necklaces, Bracelets, Brooches and Rings using Crystal Beads ReviewThis is a good example of the French way of beading using crystals and nylon thread. I plan on using c-lon or fireline with a beading needle. Before the projects are a few pages explaining the materials and method.Everything is clearly explained step by step with good illustrations and color photos. The projects are in sets; e.g. ring, bracelet, earrings, necklace, etc. There are 13 sets. Instructions call for two needles when beading with needles. My favorites are Ocean lace, romance and southern stars which is a 6 point star. Color choices are lovely. Both this book and her earlier one highly recommended. Very reasonable book well produced.Necklaces, Bracelets, Brooches and Rings using Crystal Beads Overview

Glamorous Beaded Jewelry: Bracelets, Necklaces, Earrings, and Rings ReviewA very nice book - great instructions and pictures. Most of the jewellery is made with wire as opposed to thread. Beads are certainly easily obtained from any good bead shop. I would recommend to anyone who likes working with wire.Glamorous Beaded Jewelry: Bracelets, Necklaces, Earrings, and Rings Overview

Make Your Own Rings: Easy ring projects to do at home ReviewAug 15, 2009 [...]
Nana V. Mizushima is a familiar name in the world of jewelry making. You may have already read about her on this site before, in fact, when I reviewed her book Metal Clay Magic.
While she is a master of metal clay, Mizushima has a wide range of jewelry making skills, which she shares in her book Make Your Own Rings: Easy Ring Projects to Do at Home ($[...] US). This book is all about making rings and covers a wide range of jewelry techniques.
Techniques
The mixture of techniques is probably one of the most unusual elements of this book. While the author is well-known for her metal clay skills, she doesn't stick to just metal clay in this book. Along with metal clay, you'll find wire work, polymer clay, and wire combined with beads.
The first section of the book is full of technical information such as ring sizing, mold making, and metal clay firing. There is also information about the various tools and supplies you'll need. Just shy of about 100 pages, this section is pretty detailed.
Projects
The rest of the 166 page book primarily focuses on ring making projects. The first section includes 11 projects considered at the "easy" level, all of which include little or no firing. This is where you'll find the projects that use wire with a few that use some polymer clay or metal clay. For example, the "Textured Sterling Silver Band" ring shows how to use half-round wire and low-fire metal clay to create a very simple band ring.
The "more challenging" projects are in the next section. This has another 11 projects, all of which use metal clay such as metal clay paper for an "Origami Box Ring" (pictured with a blue glass cab in the center).
The projects and many of the techniques pages include full-color images to help illustrate the process.
Concluding Thoughts
Rings are probably some of the most difficult projects to do when it comes to metal clay, so if this is something you've wanted to master, you have lots of opportunity to practice with all of these projects, even if not all of them have to do with metal clay. It is actually pretty unusual for a book to cover different techniques like this and instead focusing on the end product - rings - so this could be a good or a bad thing depending on what readers want. If you like the idea of trying different techniques with an emphasis on metal clay, then great, but if you are more of a wire person, then there may not be that much for you in this book.
That said, obviously this is something the author might have realized, and you don't necessarily need to buy the whole book in order to try out some of the projects. On her web site, she has projects from the book available for purchase as down-loadable individual pdf files. You can also view the table of contents, look at a few sample pages, and she even offers one project for free.
Publisher's Site [...]
Tammy Powley, Jewelry Making Guide, notes:
Well-known jewelry designer and author Nana V. Mizushima has been hard at work on a new book title. It's called Make Your Own Rings and covers a variety of jewelry making techniques such as metal clay, resin, silver, and wire, all focusing on making rings.
Besides mixing up techniques, which you don't often see in many jewelry making books, another "out side of the box" idea implemented by the author is to offer the text in a few different ways. You can get a hardcopy of the entire text, either from Amazon.com or her web site, or you can purchase downloadable pdf instructions for individual projects. So for example, if you aren't interested in metal clay but like some of the wire ring projects in the book, you can just purchase the wire ring projects you want, one or all of them. I have to say that this is a pretty clever idea! You can find more information about her book along with a Table of Contents, pictures of projects, sample pages and more at her Make Your Own Rings web site.Make Your Own Rings: Easy ring projects to do at home Overview

Engagement & Wedding Rings 3ed PB ReviewAnd get a cup of coffee. And a high-lighter. And then just let this book do your work for you. Why? Because "Typical Joe" will wander into a nice jewelry store not knowing diddly about diamonds, sporting a deer-in-the-headlights look that serves as an aphrodisiac to the store clerks. The love Typical Joe! With their lush carpets, free coffee, revolving credit and halogen lights that would make a piece of tar light up like Vegas, the stores also provide an "education" about diamonds through brochures published by their trade association. But if you want the REAL skinny -- and not some puff piece that glosses over the important info -- get this book. It holds your hand, feeds your head and keeps your wallet MUCH fatter in the long run. ( I know am I going to get negative marks at the bottom of this review from annoyed jewelers...sorry, folks). I saved thousands of dollars.
For instance,I never knew about diamond brokers until I read this book. The appendix helped me find a good one;I saved a lot of money on the ring. I should mention that the purpose of the book is to educate on diamonds, not diminish the importance of a good jeweler (although, after I saw the mark-up on loose stones, I was livid. I'm all for making a profit, but most jewelers just GOUGE you). Point is, by reading this little book, you can learn a good deal of pertinent info and translate that into an immediate savings.
Buying an engagement ring, in theory at least, should be a one-time purchase. And no guy wants to mess it up. Get this book, understand the color, clarity, blah blah blah but focus on the CUT. If you understand that, you're miles ahead of Typical Joe. This book is well-organized, well-written and provides all the info you need to get a beautiful diamond from a position of strength.Engagement & Wedding Rings 3ed PB Overview
