In my personal opinion the people who edited, arranged and orchestrated these volumes should be arrested for defrauding the public by posing as professional muscisians! If I had wanted to play MARCHING music instead of devotional music I would have joined a MARCHING BAND! Any semblence to music fit to play within the House of God has been butchered and profaned. Terrestria Chronicles -- The Sword, the Ring, and the Parchment ReviewAbout a year and a half ago, my then 10 year old son, bought these books with his own money because they sounded like something he would like. (Knights and castles) He was raving about how wondererful they were and read the whole series in less than a week. My husband, wondering what all the "fuss" was about decided to read "The Sword, the Ring and the Parchment" too. He was so impressed and too, went on to read all 7 books, and recommended that I do too. I don't have tons of time to read, being a homeschool mom of 6 children, but I read every one of the books in the Terrestria Chronicles and was so blown away at not only how wonderfully written they were, but how incredibly they were able to explain our spiritual walk with God and encourage me in my own personal relationship with Him.
Another great plus, or maybe THE best part, is that, having read them, we are able to use the books to refer to when explaining spiritual truths to our children. That has been so neat. I can say, "Remember Prince Josiah when he did......" and they can immediately relate and understand what I'm trying to show them.
These books are worth their weight in gold. You will never regret this purchase!!! If your children love knights and castles, they will love these books. They are not just for boys though, either. My 7yo "girly" daughter begs me to read another chapter. It even keeps my 5yo's attention. Thank you Mr Dunlop for allowing God to work through you. Where Should Turtle Be Review"Where Should Turtle Be?" is a great picture book and read-aloud. It narrates the story of a baby sea turtle who takes the wrong path, away from the ocean, and ends up in different habitats inhabited by other types of turtles. As he journeys, he discovers other kinds of turtles who find their homes in the woods, salty marsh, and ponds. The poor sea turtle finds these habitats alien and uncomfortable despite noticing that the various turtles he meets, i.e. box, painted and diamond back seem at home in their individual habitats. So he trudges on, hoping to find his real home at last.
The story itself is captivating and will appeal to young children and even older ones as they follow the young sea turtle's journey home, beautifully illustrated in full-color. But this is not merely a story - there is a lot to be learned here too, and I loved that the book had learning activities for readers to participate in at the end of the book, such as matching the different habitats to the respective turtles, and many more. This makes a wonderful read-aloud and picture book which serves to educate in a fun and interactive way. Highly recommended!Where Should Turtle Be Overview

The book contains three Arkansas diamonds from the natural state. Pick the book up and dig in for some sparkling entertainment. Told in the vernacular, these stories have a folksy tone that is relaxing, invigorating, and good-humored.
Three romances are in this one book. They all occur in the state of Arkansas. All three couples are thirty-something.
First, there's LARKSPUR DREAMS, set in Eureka Springs, Larkspur is an artist with a new neighbor. She has a plan of helping the accountant, who has moved next door, loosen up. Do opposites attract?
Second, there is THE LOVE SONG. In this story an unpolished gem of a lady attracts the attention of two suave men. Who will win her heart? The city of Little Rock comes to life on the pages. Having spent repeated vacations at Petit Jean, I enjoyed the waterfall scene.
Third, CASTLES IN THE AIR is the tale of a Hot Springs candy-store owner who has an encounter with a geek. Will there be a romance?

Harry Potter, Narnia, and The Lord of the Rings: What You Need to Know About Fantasy Books and Movies ReviewHarry Potter, Narnia, and the Lord of the Rings by Richard Abanes is a dissection of three of the greatest fantasy phenomena around today. Is fantasy harmful? Can we learn from it? Are there different types? How does fantasy affect us?
These are just a few of the questions Abanes answers in his informative book. As a mildly interested reader and watcher of fantasy, this book surprised me as it disclosed the impact that reading or observing fantasy can have on a person--especially a child or teenager. Yet parents are often very lax in supervising what their children read or watch, resulting in a decline in morals as well as an increasing interest in the occult.
Abanes compares the three above-named fantasies to show what each is preaching or teaching. With the Narnia and Lord of the Rings series, he shows how Christian values and morals can be taught through the fantasy medium.
With Harry Potter, he raises a few questions. Some in the Christian arena have said it teaches Christian morals. Abanes disputes this by asking: Do we have a clear-cut example of good and bad in Harry Potter? How can we call the hero "good" and yet watch Harry lie, cheat, and steal? What about all the occult spells and paraphernalia explored in the books?
In the last chapters, he shows how television and movies are delving more and more into the occult, including horror movies and even prime-time weekly television programs. "Children are big imitators," asserts Abanes. Many of the crimes being perpetrated today--especially by children and teenagers--are copycats of scenes watched in movies or television.
Harry Potter, Narnia, and The Lord of the Rings is enlightening while remaining highly readable. Phillips describes how, as a translator, he had to engage deeply and thoughtfully with the original Greek text of the NT. Not only does he find the text to be historically accurate on a wide range of details, he finds that the stories "ring true." Jesus comes across not as a deified philosopher, but as a real, complex, and powerful personality--a human being who was gentle and caring with children and social outcasts, but strong, courageous, and confrontive in challenging the hypocrisy of the highly revered religious powers that be. Phillips specifically lists a number of places where the close attention required by translating brought him face to face with suprising, sometimes shocking, new ideas about Jesus, God, and humanity. Life at Death ReviewThis is the first scientific study of the Near Death Experience. It is like a breath of fresh air after the anecdotal accounts of men like Raymond Moody. There is a statistical analysis of the aspects of the NDE, and some of the conclusions are rather surprising, but the small sample size is rather upsetting. With the prevalence of NDE's around, it seem rather silly to only use 100 people in the sample. At any rate, let's hope that this book will be encourage other researchers to look at the Near Death Experience a little more citically.Life at Death Overview

Despite J.R.R. Tolkien's insistance that it was not an allegory, millions of Christians see the greatest story ever told just beneath the surface, as if runic words inscribed its pages. Whether or not you read that into this modern mythos, it can not be denied that Aragorn, Gandalf, and the rest of the Fellowship captured the meaning of virtue in their lives. From wisdom to loyalty to graciousness, they were examples of what we should be. Likewise, in Denethor, Grima, Sauron, etc, we see what we should strive not to be. In this book, the author takes these traits two by two, the good and the evil, and shows us how it played out in Middle Earth, in the Bible, and how to carry it into life. Given the popularity of this saga, it works with great efficiency. It would be a wonderful cross generational Bible study, especially since she takes the time to clue readers in on the teen jargon's meaning. For that alone, parents should invest in this book. It's a book designed to be read over several weeks, but you will have to exercise restraint not to sail through it in one sitting, so readable is it. ****
