Ring Of Daggers ReviewI love being able to download a book for a few bucks and be reading it within minutes. This was my enjoyment book I read these last few days, while spending the rest of my time reading books for finals, and it was a fun escape from the rest of the academic readings.
Lots of intrigue and apocalyptic mysteries to be solved. Lots of puzzles within the book; kind of like a Middle-East Da Vinci code-ish type of book, sort of. It's hard to figure out what to say, without giving things away. Good book for those interested in 2012, biblical, or doomsday scenarios. The whole book is really just a puzzle, trying to figure things out; lot's of history in the book, too; like Da Vinci code, so you feel like you're learning a little something while you read.
There was one thing that was pretty cool--and I hope I'm not spoiling anything--but at the end, the author mentions that there was a puzzle hidden within the book and whoever solves it gets a prize. Ring ReviewHard SF the way it can and should be written. Baxter creates well-drawn and interesting characters and sets them loose on an adventure of truly mind-boggling scale. I haven't read any of his stuff before, but that's gonna change, now! "Ring" reminds me most of Kim Stanley Robinson's "Red Mars," which won a well-deserved Hugo Award. It's positively bursting with well-thought-out and captivating speculation and extrapolation, and most of the time I was reading, I just kept shaking my head in amazement at the scope of the ideas. You may learn more about stellar physics or superstring theory than you'd like to, but hey, that's hard SF, and Baxter does a good job of keeping the science understandable. "Ring" occasionally drags a bit, but not for long, and I guarantee it will expand your mental horizons.Ring Overview

Ring of Fire III ReviewThe quality of the set of short story collections in this series has varied from book to book. This book, in my opinion, sets the highest standard in quality, standard of writing and enjoyability of any of the collections set in the Ring of Fire universe. Mr. Flint has not only done an excellent job of editing but has provided one of the best ( and longest ) stories in the collection, "Four Days on the Danube". I also especially enjoyed "All God's Children in the Burning East" by Garrett W. Vance which is set in Indochina, Les Ailes du Papillion by Walter Hunt which is set in North America and "Salonica" set in the Ottoman empire by Kim McKay. Since the forward indicates that that these three areas will be playing a prominent role in future books, this is a good sign for the continued viability and reader interest in the whole series; both novels and collections.
