Dylan Murphy And The Magic Touch (Book 1) ReviewWow! What a fun read! The author really has a winner here. If you're looking for a fun romp through a magical world, then look no further. In this book, the author has put an original spin on the essence of magical powers, giving the story a fresh new twist. He also manages to blend the real and magical worlds in a unique way which helps you identify more closely with the main characters: they truly are as real as you and me (no need for a prized lineage or a high midi-chlorian blood count!). If you have kids who don't like to read, hand them this book. They will more than likely change their minds! Is this the next Harry Potter? Who knows, it certainly could be. Although it is a fun book for young and old alike, and full of magic, one thing it is NOT is "another" Harry Potter. This is a truly original story and a lot of fun to read. Once you start, and your internal movie projector gets going, you will quickly get attached to the characters and won't want to put the book (or should I say kindle?) down. There is one down side however: it appears we'll have to wait over a year for the next book! In the meantime, grab a copy, enjoy it, and spread the word!Dylan Murphy And The Magic Touch (Book 1) OverviewThis first book in what promises to be a great new series is a very engaging and entertaining novel in the fantasy genre. Guaranteed to entertain kids and adults alike, this book would be particularly memorable to enjoy as a family. The author's distinctive take on his magical and mystical world is unique, refreshing, and fun. The whimsical tale begins with two wizards battling it out over a supreme magical force which the evil and power-hungry one covets. Although injured in the fight, the magical essence manages to escape. It is accidentally transported off its home planet of Eldora and makes its way to Earth where, unbeknownst to the 16 year old Dylan Murphy, it merges with his body in order to heal and survive. Strange and wonderful things begin to happen as the unsuspecting young boy from Colorado begins to inadvertently invoke extraordinary new magical abilities from within. The evil sorcerer soon locates the magical essence, and deploys his minions to retrieve his prize. Opposing forces from the kingdom of Colabra are dispatched to protect the boy and the magical entity now living inside him. Before they know it, Dylan and a small group of friends are whisked away to the enchanted planet of Eldora and find themselves in a struggle to save each other and the planet from a powerful wicked foe. Full of action, adventure, and enchantment, this story takes you on a delightful ride across very real venues in the state of Colorado as well as some unique, beautiful, and strange lands on Eldora. If you enjoy fantasy books, you'll quickly become a Dylan fan as you accompany him and his friends on this incredible, supernatural journey.

The Draejon (The Sirius Ring) ReviewThe Draejon is an epic story with compelling characters and rich descriptions of a world almost like our own, but not quite. The story takes off right from the beginning and doesn't let up. The detail of Morrissey's imagination is superb. Rusty and D'tanya's journey takes you deep into a search for their own identities while struggling with enemies, the Draejon, and forces that threaten the very existence of their clan. The depth of the story is revealed layer by layer. I was surprised by the complexity of the society and the inner/personal power that is the focus of the `magehood' . I literally didn't want the book to end. But I understand the Draejon is the first of a series, so - where's the next book???The Draejon (The Sirius Ring) OverviewIn the shadows of the millennia-old ruins of the Talla Empire, something ancient has awakened. Hours before dawn, a stranger's broken body is found at the edge of the village. Across the village, Rusty awakens from a nightmare. It's his sixteenth birthday, his Magehood day. Studying the Magecraft of the ancients has been Rusty's secret passion. Even so, working side-by-side with those who have shunned him is the last thing he wants to do. He plans to refuse the Magehood tests and take his chances on his own. Then an unexpected vision changes everything and Rusty is thrown into the center of the effort to track down and destroy the Draejon, a massive beast of prey that is destroying the harvest and killing anyone who gets in its way. Without food stores, few will survive the coming winter. While a small group loyal to the Elder protects Rusty, he and D'tanya must discover who they are and trust their new found powers to guide them on their path to the Draejon's lair. A stranger from the past sheds light on Rusty's extraordinary past just as long-buried forces reveal that a goddess is living among them. If the Talla Clan is to survive, Rusty must learn to trust himself, lead those who wish him harm, and recognize truth and hope in the shape of an enemy.

The Ring of Allaire (Wizard's Destiny) ReviewI have been in love with this series for over twenty years. For more than ten years of that time, it's been out of print. I don't know that I would read it today with the same eyes I did as a teen, but I still remember the liking and empathy I had for Tristan and his companions. I'm still impressed with the twist in how Tristan finds Valadan. The city of magicians is still wondrous, despite the many others I've read about since I discovered the flavors of this one.
This is a book which takes fairy tale and epic fantasy, and twines them into one. As such, there will be familiar archetypes, but also new twists. There are shades of The Last Unicorn in Valadan's tale, while still being unique and different. Allaire's plight reminds the reader of Sleeping Beauty, but it's not the same tale at all. And, of course, Tristan calls to mind every orphaned hero since Arthur. The Ring of Allaire (Wizard's Destiny) OverviewTristan is a teenaged wizard with dark hair and green eyes--but he's no Harry Potter. No cozy boarding school for Tristan either--he's been home-schooled by the old wizard who discovered him as an abandoned infant under an apple tree on Midwinter's Night. There's no one to tell Tristan who he is or what abilities may be his. If not for Thomas, his smart-ass cat familiar, he'd be utterly lost. One ordinary afternoon, Tristan returns home to find that his master has vanished, leaving his unprepared apprentice to take up the entwined quests for the legendary warhorse Valadan and the lost princess Allaire of the Nine Rings. He'd be no one's first choice, but Tristan's the only one left to assemble the essentials of the quest--a wizard, the Warhorse, the heir to Calandra's throne--infiltrate Nimir's fortress of Darkenkeep, and steal Allaire from beneath the Winter King's icicled nose. In their hundreds, the other wizards have tried--and died. Tristan's training is exemplary. His will is indomitable. His confidence, however, is nonexistent, and his magic is flawed and unreliable. The fate of his world depends on him--whether he thinks himself equal to the task or not.

The Chalice (The Sword, the Ring, and the Chalice, Book 3) ReviewBefore I buy a book, I usually come to Amazon.com to check the reviews. Unfortunately, there are so few reviews here for this wonderful book that I decided to write a review. The complete story of the Sword, Ring, and Chalice was one of the best fantasy series I have ever read. While most fantasies follow the simple pattern of -- boy goes on adventure --> meets beautiful girl --> falls instantly in love with her --> defeats anatagonist -- this series was very unpredictable. The cast of characters only enhanced the quality of the book. The way they are presented leaves the reader with an unsettling doubt of who is good or bad, at least, until the end of the story! Finally, I would just like to say that I REALLY hope that Deborah Chester continues writing about Nether and the neighboring countries! The Chalice (The Sword, the Ring, and the Chalice, Book 3) Overview

King Solomon and His Magic Ring ReviewElie Wiesel's new children's book, King Solomon and His Magic Ring, is an unpleasantly surprising work. Wiesel, author of over forty works of fiction and non-fiction, stuns readers with an uninspiring, bland retelling of a famous legend. He attempts to catch our children's attention with a thin spidery plot that is difficult to grasp.
As a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Wiesel could have done much better for himself. Instead, he has written one more book that we are able to add to the growing pile of poorly written children's books lacking in stimuli. Surely, "Not only was Solomon the wisest of all rulers, he was also the mightiest." (12). Well, not only is that line cliché, it's also not something that would excite a young mind.
Speaking of exciting, the paintings featured in this piece are of very high quality and talent. However, they are not suitable for children. The art is too dark and depicts demons, giants, lions, and other things that might frighten younger readers. In addition to boring or perhaps scaring today's youth, Wiesel has also managed to impress upon them a couple of incorrect teachings, including one about women. "Solomon's worst mistake? His marriage to the daughter of the Pharaoh." (36) The daughter of the Pharaoh gives a poor example of women. The book describes her as an enthralling dancer who later tricks Solomon whilst he is under her spell. Not all women are evil temptresses out to control men through manipulative ways; the author should make that clear.
Now, what about this magic ring? "From the moment he slipped the ring on his finger, Solomon's authority extended over everything from spirits and animals to the wind." (14) That sounds a bit like mind control. Add that to the way Wiesel portrays King Solomon; a reader might think Wiesel was advocating ruling with an iron fist. Children's books are meant to be entertaining, yes, but not to cause the youngster to reach for incorrect ideals.
Our media claims `90's youth is desensitized to television murders and sex in the movies. However, since children are taught that books are the alleys towards truth, they tend to try to learn from them, rather than media. Let Wiesel not inadvertently poison the minds of tomorrow with works such as this.King Solomon and His Magic Ring Overview

Circle of Three #6: Ring of Light ReviewIn this book Kate has a lot to deal with. Her relationship with Tyler has progressed so that her parents invite him over for diner. She wants nothing more for them to not find out about her wiccan ways so she gets stressed by this. But things take a turn for the worst when she finds out her favriote Aunt has Cancer. Annie starts to volunteer at a nursing home so that she can better face death. But she's miserable there. THe rooms smell and one of the residents hate her. How will she deal? Cooper has seperated herself from the circle but will a chance of healing Kate's aunt Draw her back in?
In this book the author focuses less on the magic aspects in the three girls life and gears it more towards there emotions and fears, with wonderful results. This book was well written and lets you know what the charecters are really feeling. The next one "Blue moon" looks really interesting and suspenseful. I reccommed this book to anyone who's a fan of the series. I read it in a day.Circle of Three #6: Ring of Light Overview

The Ring of Five ReviewExcellent book. I bought this book thinking it was an adult book. When I found out it was a young-adult book i was kinda dismayed but figure 'heck, i paid for it, im gonna read it.' And thank God I did! It was very exciting and keep moving right from the beginning. I hate books that take 15 chapters to explain the character and premises for stories but this book explains it all AS you go along.
If your a Christian (which I am) you have to look past all the mythical angelic stuff in this book. Its purely fiction people and no need to get upset saying its not accurate about angels and seraphim etc etc.
I feel this book ranks up there with Harry Potter in the mythical-thriller category. No gore, language, sex or descriptive violence. Great for parents and teens. The Ring of Five Overview

Physics on the Fringe: Smoke Rings, Circlons, and Alternative Theories of Everything ReviewAs someone who has more than dabbled in many of the obscure subjects covered, I found this book a fascinating consolidation. But I have reservations. The main human subject, James Carter, is certainly an industrious and imaginative fellow, but I think the appellation, "Leonardo of outsiders" exaggerates the value of his work. Carter's "theory" of microcosmic matter, which proposes, by implication, to replace Schroedinger's wave equation with a predictively barren scheme of "circlons," is unlikely to arouse much interest outside the art gallery.
The book's most valuable insight is the striking parallel drawn between the collective works of outsiders and what passes for serious physics by academic insiders. Wertheim characterizes the activities of the avant garde string and multiverse cosmology theorists as the more bizarre of the two--a correct assessment, in my view.
Finally, Physics on the Fringe--as with the latest edition of Carter's book, The Other Theory of Physics (OTP)--suffers from a serious omission. In earlier editions of Carter's work, he points out that his model of gravity can be tested with a simple experiment. Being familiar with the development of Carter's work, Wertheim mentions the experiment. But she does not describe it, either graphically or verbally. In the 2011 edition of OTP, Carter does not even mention the experiment. Why not?
Regardless of the predictive uselessness of Carter's Circlon theory, his gravity model makes a robust prediction by which it can be definitively put on the chopping block. The blade breaks or the theory dies. This is what science is supposed to be about: making predictions based on hypotheses and TESTING them. Both outsiders and the latest generation of insiders sadly neglect this fact. Wertheim could have done a better job of pointing this out.
I give the book a high grade because it is very well written and because it is exceptional for exposing a side to the study of physical reality that is otherwise obscenely overshadowed by the entertainment industry that has become of modern fundamental physics.Physics on the Fringe: Smoke Rings, Circlons, and Alternative Theories of Everything Overview

The Raven Ring: A Lyra Novel ReviewThe Raven Ring is one of my favorite books. It was the first book I read in the "Shadows over Lyra" novels, and discovered it was a stand-alone book. This can be your first Patricia C. Wrede book, but it will make you want to read more.
The Raven Ring is about a young woman, Eleret, who goes to visit the city of Ciaron to collect her dead mothers belongings. There, she discovers many people who are interested in the raven ring her mother owned. With the help of her friend, the sly and witty thief Karvonen, and her guide/bodyguard/friend Lord Daner, she solves the mystery of the Raven Ring and finds love along the way.
The Raven Ring is a great book which has just the right amount of mystery, romance, and fun in it. Patricia Wrede is a great author. The Raven Ring is the kind of book you will want to have on your bookshelf to read over and over again. The Raven Ring: A Lyra Novel Overview

Moon Of 3 Rings ReviewMoon of Three Rings is the first novel in the Moonsinger series. Krip Vorland is assistant cargomaster on the Free Trader ship Lydis. Maelen of the Kontra is a Moon Singer of the Thassa. Both have come to Yrjar on Yiktor for the great trade fair.
In this novel, Maelen has been approached by Osokun, son of Oskold, and an off-worlder, Gauk Slafid, of the Combine. They want Maelen to lure a member of the Lydis crew into a trap to gain off-world knowledge and weapons. Maelen refuses, yet is troubled by the plot. When Krip and a fellow crew member attend her beast show, she has her partner, Malec, approach the off-worlders, offer a tour of the show, and then bring them to her so that she might question them and better understand the conspiracy against the Free Traders.
After she has introduced all the animals to the Free Traders, she asks them about the possibility of a touring beast show among the stars, but then they are interrupted by a oddjob boy, who she has tasked with watching an animal dealer, Othelm of Ylt, suspected of abusing his creatures. When Maelen begs leave to go, Krip asks permission to accompany her and they go to the dealer's tent, where they find a badly abused barsk. As Maelen goes to the animal, Othelm tries to attack her with a poisoned snik-claw knife, but Krip paralyzes his hand with a stunner. Maelen provides a token payment for the beast and removes it from Othelm's custody.
Krip reports the incident to his captain. After checking the persona tape on Krip's belt, the captain absolves him of any wrong doing, but still limits him to the ship and the ship's fair booth as a precaution. Later the duty priest and fair guards come to take Krip for judgment. Since he is busy with important customers, the captain stays behind but retains Krip's stunner and sends along another crew member. The priest and guards escort Krip to the fringe of the fairgrounds, where they are attacked by another party and Krip is taken captive.
After recovering full consciousness, Krip finds himself in a pit within a Yiktor fort. Osokun has found another way to gain a captive for his plot to extort weapons and knowledge. While he is waiting for a reply to his demands, Osokun also has Krip tortured in an attempt to break the off-world conditioning. When Krip awakens again, he knows that the only way that he is going to survive is to escape his captors.
After Krip's capture, Maelen senses his condition and leaves the fair to rescue him, taking along the barsk and several other animals with useful capabilities and skills. She doesn't know where Krip is located, but follows the pull of her wand eastward.
Like some other novels by the author, this story is just barely science fiction, for it postulates powers that are much like the magic of Witch World. Some of these powers are beyond the present day speculations of psionics; switching identities between bodies, for example, is an old standby of fantasy tales, but not in the parapsychological repertoire. However, this notion has been used in a variety of SF tales, including Schmitz's "Resident Witch".
This novel also differs from most other works by the author in that the heroine initially appears less than lovable. While caring deeply for her animal friends, Maelen has little empathy for anyone who is not Thassa (and not much even for the Thassa). Moreover, she arrogantly believes that she is more capable than any other living Moon Singer, as evidenced by her belief that she will be the first to tame a wild barsk. However, these flaws of personality are quite deliberate, as the storyline takes a step beyond the coming of age tale to an account of developing maturity and wisdom.
Recommended to Norton fans and anyone who enjoys tales of personal and interpersonal growth in a space adventure setting.

The Golden Mare, the Firebird, and the Magic Ring ReviewA conglomeration of russian folk tales. Alexi the huntsman seeks his fortune & finds a job with the Tsar, along the way acquiring a magic horse, and at the end of his journey, a wondorous bride.
The illustrations are quality Sanderson, as always very factual and detailed, but probably her finest. I always find myself a little let down as her illustrations dont quite have the magic & mysterious quality of some other illustrators such as Kinuko Y Craft or Trina S. Hyman to name just two of the finest.
The story mangages to be quite interesting, in spite of the quest for the Firebird being such a familiar story, and in the end there is a lovely twist in revenge for the Tsar.
Quite good.

Mystical Dragon Magick: Teachings of the Five Inner Rings ReviewThe is the continuation of D.J.'s first book Dancing With Dragons. This book takes one further on the path to working with Dragons by guiding one on how to enter the five rings of the Dragon realm. Dragons are true magickal power and only the serious minded should seek their ways. I purchased Dancing With Dragons when it first became available and I have been entranced ever since. I was thrilled to see this second book and discover the more intimate ways of seeking Dragon help. I loved the frist book, but I feel as if I can really connect with the Dragons in this book. I appreciate the fact that the path of the Dragon is taken seriously by Ms. Conway and Dragons are presented as the wizards, teachers, guides, and wise ones they truly are. These books open a tremendous world for anyone seriously seeking the Dragon path! I love all of D.J. Conways books and I hope she'll establish a more intricate website in the future!Mystical Dragon Magick: Teachings of the Five Inner Rings Overview

Dragon's Ring ReviewFionn and Meb are two of the most enjoyable characters I have read about in recent years.
A dragon with a heart and a mage who is not suddenly all powerful after 'finding out the truth' are very different heroes.
Fionn has been working for a long time to destroy Tasmarin whilst Meb was dragged into this plane when Fionn destroyed the first of the towers holding Tasmarin in place.
They travel Tasmarin as Fionn plans the final destruction of Tasmarin and Dragon's Ring is a fascinating read. Meb is a very likeable character who changes from a young girl to a mature woman who is more then a match for Fionn. Fionn is a rogue who is honest about his intentions to destroy Tasmarin to all who ask but no one believes him.
Along the way they gather favours from the many races who live in Tasmarin and finally connect them all together as Fionn prepares to destroy Tasmarin.
Read Dragon's Ring to find out how good a story this is.
Hopefully this will be only the first in a series about Fionn and Meb.Dragon's Ring Overview

The Monster's Ring: A Magic Shop Book ReviewWhen you are alone do you ever think about monsters? Well if not then after you read this book you will. You will because of the monsters ring. The ring works like this: Step 1: You twist it once around and you get fangs as teeth in your mouth. When you twist it twice, which is step 2, you get horned and hairy. Then step 3: You twist the ring three times, but no person has dared.
In this book a kid named Russell is going to a Halloween party and he needed the perfect costume for it. I can make a text to world connection by saying every one had to go to get a costume. So he went all around town looking for the perfect costume but no store had one. So he went to the magic store and the clerk gave him a box with a ring in it and it was the monsters ring.
I personally think that the ring made him a horrible person and as the story went so did his attitude. The Monsters Ring is a flawless and very scary book. And also very interesting.
I would really recommend this book to lots of kids that like scary books and movies and to kids wirth the age of 10-13.The Monster's Ring: A Magic Shop Book Overview

Ring Around the Rosie Review"Ring Around the Rosie" as a child's rhyme always made me nervous, and although I've pushed it out of my mind, now I remember why. In a story that lures the reader in and wraps you with warmth, there's a constantly lingering uncertainty that all isn't what it seems.Ring Around the Rosie Overview

The Iron Ring ReviewThe Iron Ring is all out my favorite book. I used to not like to read do to the fact that in school I am forced to read books that I have no interest in. But one day I picked up a book in the schools Library and read the back. I was immediately hooked so I took it home and started reading. My parents thought something was wrong with me but as Lloyd Alexander put it: "Fantasy is hardly an escape from reality. It's a way of understanding it." Now I love to read again and I am always waiting for more Alexander books to pick up. If you don't like to read I suggest you pick up this book and you will love it.
Thank you Lloyd for inspiring me and making reading fun.The Iron Ring Overview
