Dylan Murphy And The Magic Touch (Book 1) ReviewWow! What a fun read! The author really has a winner here. If you're looking for a fun romp through a magical world, then look no further. In this book, the author has put an original spin on the essence of magical powers, giving the story a fresh new twist. He also manages to blend the real and magical worlds in a unique way which helps you identify more closely with the main characters: they truly are as real as you and me (no need for a prized lineage or a high midi-chlorian blood count!). If you have kids who don't like to read, hand them this book. They will more than likely change their minds! Is this the next Harry Potter? Who knows, it certainly could be. Although it is a fun book for young and old alike, and full of magic, one thing it is NOT is "another" Harry Potter. This is a truly original story and a lot of fun to read. Once you start, and your internal movie projector gets going, you will quickly get attached to the characters and won't want to put the book (or should I say kindle?) down. There is one down side however: it appears we'll have to wait over a year for the next book! Terrestria Chronicles -- The Sword, the Ring, and the Parchment ReviewAbout a year and a half ago, my then 10 year old son, bought these books with his own money because they sounded like something he would like. (Knights and castles) He was raving about how wondererful they were and read the whole series in less than a week. My husband, wondering what all the "fuss" was about decided to read "The Sword, the Ring and the Parchment" too. He was so impressed and too, went on to read all 7 books, and recommended that I do too. I don't have tons of time to read, being a homeschool mom of 6 children, but I read every one of the books in the Terrestria Chronicles and was so blown away at not only how wonderfully written they were, but how incredibly they were able to explain our spiritual walk with God and encourage me in my own personal relationship with Him.
Another great plus, or maybe THE best part, is that, having read them, we are able to use the books to refer to when explaining spiritual truths to our children. That has been so neat. I can say, "Remember Prince Josiah when he did......" and they can immediately relate and understand what I'm trying to show them.
These books are worth their weight in gold. You will never regret this purchase!!! If your children love knights and castles, they will love these books. They are not just for boys though, either. My 7yo "girly" daughter begs me to read another chapter. It even keeps my 5yo's attention. Thank you Mr Dunlop for allowing God to work through you. The Ring: The Last Knight Templar's Inheritance ReviewThe plot idea for this book is a good one. The beautifully designed cover and the blurb "the Last Knight's Templar's Inheritance" drew me in and I was ready for a hopefully well written Templar Treasure adventure. Wrong. Although the story idea was good, it unfortunately was not well executed. Parts of the story were written very well, other parts were written so poorly that I kept thinking throughout the book that it seemed like it was written by two authors. I have to also say that an awful lot of the story was very predictable which ruins the wish to keep plodding along. The issue I have the most complaint about is that the characters are so lame. Three main characters make up the story, three friends from childhood who inherit a legacy and are thrust into a thrilling hunt for the lost treasure of the Templar Knights. These three people have got to be the most immature young people I have ever come across. The dialog between them was so bad, the integrity of the main character of Christina was appalling, and there never was any deep character development for any of them. I cant say I liked one character in this book, they were simply shallow, sarcastic, and all had schizophrenic personalities that changed like chameleons. I would loved to have seen a more seasoned writer pen this same story. This author in my eyes is not accomplished or polished and it really came through clearly to ruin the story. I barely could finish it, many times I almost put it down, and in my eyes, the ending was simply not worth the overly long journey. Give this a big miss. In fact at this moment, for a very new book that was just released, I found it telling that there were so many many copies of it used for just a dollar or two. The Ring of Allaire (Wizard's Destiny) ReviewI have been in love with this series for over twenty years. For more than ten years of that time, it's been out of print. I don't know that I would read it today with the same eyes I did as a teen, but I still remember the liking and empathy I had for Tristan and his companions. I'm still impressed with the twist in how Tristan finds Valadan. The city of magicians is still wondrous, despite the many others I've read about since I discovered the flavors of this one.
This is a book which takes fairy tale and epic fantasy, and twines them into one. As such, there will be familiar archetypes, but also new twists. There are shades of The Last Unicorn in Valadan's tale, while still being unique and different. Allaire's plight reminds the reader of Sleeping Beauty, but it's not the same tale at all. The Ring of Five ReviewExcellent book. I bought this book thinking it was an adult book. When I found out it was a young-adult book i was kinda dismayed but figure 'heck, i paid for it, im gonna read it.' And thank God I did! It was very exciting and keep moving right from the beginning. I hate books that take 15 chapters to explain the character and premises for stories but this book explains it all AS you go along.
If your a Christian (which I am) you have to look past all the mythical angelic stuff in this book. Its purely fiction people and no need to get upset saying its not accurate about angels and seraphim etc etc.
I feel this book ranks up there with Harry Potter in the mythical-thriller category. No gore, language, sex or descriptive violence. Great for parents and teens.The Ring of Five Overview
