The Borgia Ring. Michael White ReviewThis is an excellent mystery that goes back and forth in time A skeleton unearthed on a building site brings mayhem and killings to the present day How they are related, and how it is told through the eyes of a Detective Chief Inspector, who happens to have his own personal issues, makes very interesting reading The author is very accomplished, and it is one of those books you cannot put down The author lives in Australia, and I do not think he has a following here yet but, I think like Douglas Kennedy who was a star in Europe and not here, Mr White will be word of mouthThe Borgia Ring. Review ;)
An emotional roller coaster that was fast paced , filled with murder, suspense, lies, and romance. I really enjoyed this mysterious storyline, the plot smoothly flowed from one chapter to the next, and the end finalized swiftly but efficiently to give the reader a well delivered finale to a susspensful read. Romance was present not the main factor in the read but I felt this was evenly distributed to give us those elements we look forward in any suspenseful romance thriller. I was worried towards the end only 15 pages to go and still no deal was sealed. But Victoria ended it well, nothing left unfinished, and a finale which I am sure pleased the reader. I know I was impressed.
The main characters two very different characters, but tended to fit the jigsaw well. Every little piece and details were included, giving an insight to the characters personality and views. Descriptions once again well detailed thoughts, emotions and surrounding well portrayed. I enjoy this in a read, as I am a visual reader!!!
I enjoyed Jacks character definitely not flawless, but his love for his daughter softened his hard exterior, good cop -hard arse. He new what his responsibilities where and never faulted with either. He was brave, and respected, and gallant to the end.
Grace was a tortured soul, living in a loveless marriage stuck to her vows, not matter what. She was withdrawn in the beginning of the story but in time her character grew to great depths creating a complete new person. Strong and determined to move on with life, and start to live. I was happy to see Grace stand her ground and move on with life no matter what had happened to her. She had a strong will and in the end this showed in her character.
There are plenty of villains present creating that mystery and suspense that we all crave in a good thrilling read. Their characters coming across as callous and uncaring and just hard arse, this was portrayed well. Could a villian be portrayed but this ... You grew to hate the charcters and what they stood for, but this also is part of a great story...
Overall, Victoria never disappoints in her writing, intriguing the reader into the world that she has created, drawing us into the suspense, and mystery and even little loving entwined. The romance wasn't a big part of the story, but I fell it was just perfect, giving us the insight to Jack and Grace's emotions and dragging us along in the moment.
All secondary charcters meshed well with the story line, making it a enjoyable read , all necessary and blending in well with the plot.
I've now read two of Victoria's stories and have immensely enjoyed both and I certainly look forward to more of her stories in the future... A must read!! That will keep you on the edge of your seat, right till the very endRing of Lies Overview

The Celtic Ring ReviewLet me clarify a few things right at the beginning: I am no sailor, I have never been to northern Scandinavia nor to Scotland, and I had never felt a great interest for Europe's Celtic heritage. But this book changed all that! It made me want to live on a boat, it gave me an appetite for a trip to northern Europe, and it aroused my interest in the history of the Celtic civilization. In short, "The Celtic Ring" has it all: an intelligent page-turner, so to speak. But what exactly is the book about?
On a cold January night in the Danish port of Dragor, Ulf - a young Swede living aboard his 31-foot-yacht "Rustica" - gets to know Pekka, an inscrutable Finn who has just arrived in the port utterly exhausted and green with fear. Pekka hands his logbook over to Ulf before disappearing again during the night that follows. After reading the logbook, Ulf decides to sail across the North Sea to Scotland together with his friend Torben in order to find out more about the so-called Celtic Ring, an enigmatic organization dedicated to the obtainment of political autonomy for the former Celtic nations of Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Brittany. Along the way, Ulf and Torben have to battle both with adverse meteorological conditions as well as with shady characters who clearly disapprove of foreigners poking their noses into matters that are none of their own. In the end, the two Swedes succeed in uncovering a vast network of activists fighting for the Celtic cause, although much about the Ring's core organization remains unknown.
"The Celtic Ring" is a gripping novel bristling with nautical detail and historical footnotes that will appeal to experts and laymen alike. The plot is fast-moving and full of unexpected twists. The only part of the book I did not quite like was the end which leaves the reader in considerable doubt about the story's outcome. Also, the map provided in the book is of a too general nature, and I would have greatly appreciated a second, more precise map outlining those parts of the Scottish coastline that are so vividly described in the book. The Celtic Ring Overview

Witches' Rings (Series B (Norvik Press)) ReviewJust a note from the translator in reaction to the published customer review -- the "witches' rings" of the title are rings trampled in the grass by mating deer, and allude to the way people spend their lives running around in circles, unsure of what they want or how to obtain it, as the character who sees them observes that the deer are doing.Witches' Rings (Series B (Norvik Press)) Overview

Rings: A Short Story ReviewI really struggled with what rating to give this story.
For the Story Quality (for the short time I was reading) 5 stars!
For the Characters 5 stars!
The Premise 5 stars!
HOW SHORT THE STORY WAS 1 STAR!
I loved this story about a civilization that sacrifices so much for the greater good. The premise was very interesting. I was left with so many questions! It was very unsatisfying. I mean dang. I know it was a short story. I just did not know HOW SHORT!!! I mean just when you are getting into the story. Blam... It is over. I swear it was 15 pages on my kindle. What happens to the people if the rings can become full blown? How did this epidemic begin? How does it end? Why are there no guns at the suicide stations? Why did the main character make a run for it with his daughter? What was so bad about this disease that made it so easy for people to make the choices that were made?
This author has some serious talent! Just next time put some meat on it!!Rings: A Short Story Overview

Smoke Rings (The Clarke Lantham Mysteries) ReviewI love this series. This one is probably the best one so far. We get to see more and more into the emotional core of Clark. He's really becoming a person, more than just a character. Dan doesn't sacrifice the sexiness or the danger in this to achieve that level of character development though. I'm looking forward to book four!Smoke Rings (The Clarke Lantham Mysteries) OverviewClarke Lantham has a checkered relationship with holidays, and this New Year's Eve is no different. His space is cramped, his personal life is on the skids, and his business is once again under assault from lawyers and bill collectors. But it's not all bad. The year from hell is ending tonight, and he has his office to himself. So when an old girlfriend shows up with a chance for a $50,000 reward and a New Year's Eve reconciliation, he jumps at the chance. After all, things can only get better, right?Yeah, right.

The Sherwood Ring ReviewLet me first dispel any misconceptions you might have. Upon first hearing the title, I assumed that this was a Robin Hood retelling. It isn't. This is a children's historical fiction, but in this case the history imparts a vivid backdrop for the story to take place. You never feel pressured to know overmuch about the events of the American Revolution (although your enjoyment will be enhanced if you do). History isn't a dry, weighty affair in this book--it's what gives _The Sherwood Ring_ its breath.
I've also heard this called a ghost story. Technically true, but each of the characters is vividly, blazingly drawn, undimmed by any ghostliness. Their purpose is not to haunt the present as echoes of the past. In fact, it is *their* story which forms the heart of the book, and I argue that you spend more time in the time of the American Revolution than in the present day. The appearance of those characters as ghosts only provides you with a chance to observe a delightful parallelism between *then* and *now.*
Throw in some romance. Not the soppy kind that you want to wring out, but the thoughtful kind between two well-suited characters that makes you want to cheer it on. There's a good share of humor, as well. Despite the presence of a war in one storyline and ghosts in the other, this really is not a grim book at all.
So: one American corporal, his normal arrogance dampened by desperation as he searches for a British conspirator who slips through his hands. The butterfly-deft woman who taunts him for his failure. His sister, quite sensible, but even the most clearheaded can get a bit muddled when caught in a snowstorm, and so she rides straight into her own share of problems. And a hunted man, showing off his cleverness to supposedly win his uncle's approval, but when he runs into the object of his true desire, he decides to go after what he really wants.
And as Peggy meets each of them and becomes entranced by listening to their lives, so will you. Caught in Pope's clear, strong prose, this tale is a definite read for both children and older readers. The Sherwood Ring Overview

The Harper's Ring ReviewJust received this short story and started to read the first few pages to see what it was about. As usual with Holly Patrone's writing, the story pulled me in and I read it all as soon as I downloaded it. This author has a great knack of bringing you into the book as if you are there with the characters. You don'f truly appreciate your freedom until you read about people that are stripped of theirs. Thanks for another great read Holly. The Harper's Ring Overview

The Skull Ring ReviewAfter surviving a horrible physical and emotional trauma, journalist Julia Stone flees the big city for a new job in the bucolic surroundings of the rural mountain town of Elkwood, North Carolina. There, with the aid of therapist, Dr. Pamela Forrest, Julia literally begins to confront her past demons and the crippling paranoia that plagues her. During these intense therapeutic sessions with Dr. Forrest, dormant memories from Julia's subconscious begin to resurface--memories that hold secrets that not only threaten Julia's sanity, but her very life.
Scott Nicholson is the author of The Red Church, They Hunger, Burial To Follow, and several other wildly captivating novels. A slick, pro-writer with a bent for moody, suspenseful tales set in the Appalachian environs of North America, Nicholson knows how to get under the skin of his characters, and thus, the reader's. In his latest venture into the backwoods, Nicholson has created one hell of a unique heroine in the guise of Julia Stone. While as plucky and resourceful a protagonist as a reader could hope for, she is also terribly burdened and deeply flawed--which makes it all the easier to embrace and root for her.
Whether you're a fan of dark fiction, thrillers, mysteries, the occult, or just damn fine writing, The Skull Ring is a fire and brimstone rush. The Skull Ring Overview

The Skull Ring (Bonus Edition With Screenplay) ReviewThe book has a great story line. The first several chapters started out with a bang, and then it hit a brick wall for me. I almost put the book down. I am glad I didn't because the book started coming together towards the end and pieces started to fall into place. The ending of the book left me wondering if it really was the end of Julia's old life of pain or the beginning of something new. Either way enjoyed the book.
