With This Ring ReviewOn one hand, it definitely was a page turner. I was hooked to the characters and the story flowed very well. I felt what the characters felt; the good, the bad, and the ugly.
On the other hand, I don't know if I liked the ending. There were some loose ends that I wish had been tied up, but I don't want to put any spoilers.
I would recommend this book because, even after hours after putting my Kindle down, I'm still thinking about Amy, Sam, and Justin and I think that is a good sign that the author did her job in making the characters feel real.
Side note- I also read her book Betting on Love, and I enjoyed it was well. A Gift of Love : Double Exposure / Just Curious / Gabriel's Angel / Yuletide Treasure / Five Golden Rings ReviewI normally don't care for anthologies, for two principal reasons. First, many stories in these anthologies suffer from being over-short; the usual 70 - 100 pages is simply not sufficient to develop the storyline in a sufficiently satisfying manner. Second, there is always at least one story in each collection which is disappointing and lets the others down.
However, I saw this book in, of all places, a bookshop in Manchester (yes, in the UK). An import, at a very reasonable price, so I decided to give it a try. And I'm delighted I did, having had several days of very satisfying reading from five authors, none of whose work I had read before.
These stories all have a strong Christmas theme, which is done properly, in sharp contract to many Christmas-themed books these days in which the festive season gets perhaps a couple of lines at the end with no other mentions anywhere in the book. Each story in this anthology *feels* Christmassy, in different ways. And yet each story is very different. There are two contemporary romances in US settings, two British historical romances (in the Victorian period, though again each very different), and one time-travel, again set in the US.
We have a modern career woman reunited with the childhood hero who devastated her years ago by a careless act; a still-grieving widow who discovers that the boss of whom she thoroughly disapproves has an incredibly romantic heart; a poverty-stricken young woman finds out how it feels to play the role of angel to a lonely widower and his son; a young Victorian choolmistress enters into an arranged marriage with a reclusive Earl so that his orphaned niece will have a governess, and quickly finds a way to melt his frozen heart; and a 1990s woman is transported back to Pioneer country, finding herself married to the man of her dreams.
I loved each and every one of these short stories. None - well, except perhaps the last, which ended a little abruptly - seemed over-short or insufficiently well developed. And each had its share of humour, angst, romance and heartwarming seasonal cheer.

His Wedding Ring Of Revenge (Harlequin Presents) ReviewThat about sums it up. Now I like an Alpha hero. No really. Strong, straightforward, knows what he wants...and if he's a bit dangerous to know, even better. I bought the book because it didn't seem to be the namby-pamby, politically-correct baby, bride pap we've been fed for years (the reason I turned away from romance). But this goes too far the other way--the man has NO redeeming qualities. NONE.
If he can say things like "You're the bastard daughter of my father's whore." to a 14 yr old, and she STILL wants and loves him, she deserves everything she gets. And all he has to say by way of apology is "I was angry." Despite his horrid verbal and emotional abuse, she loves him because he's beautiful, (he must be--we're told twice on every page), wealthy and is good in bed. How shallow and idiotic is that? I'm sorry, but this book signifies everything BAD about romantic stories from the 80s. Stupid women, brutish men. And it seems to me a little honesty on the part of EITHER character would have saved a lot of pages. In fact, the story would have been over before page three.
As for the writing, it's quite good (except I think "gagging for it" lowers the charcter from hero to scumbag. Given a meatier story, the author might have done well. But story is too thin begin with, and highly padded by pages and pages of excrutiatingly repetitious internal dialogue. Yes, we KNOW he's handsome. Get over it already. Jake was relentless in his pursuit of Cali and then under the confines of yet another small place, they act on their passion, it's so explosive it leaps off of the pages of this magnificent love story and it doesn't let up throughout the entire book with the exception of the last chapter. "Wild fling" was exactly that because Jake knew it would soon be over and she would leave . So why not have a "fling" and enjoy each other for a few months?
Cali couldn't believe it, she was in over her head, she had feelings for Jake, feelings that she couldn't keep from him as it showed in her eyes. When Jake realized it, he wanted to put an end to their relationship but somehow Cali convinces him she can walk away when the time comes and so they continue their combustible affair and in the end she goes to London.
Be prepared for your heart to reach out to Cali, for tears to fall and praying that Jake would come to his senses bringing them both a happy ending. Author Mira Lyn Kelly delivered it all in Wild Fling Or A Wedding Ring? This debut book was incredible and a well crafted super charged romance! But then, Amanda shows up with a sexy date, one who quotes dead earls no less, to fill the Wedding Ring requirement. Never mind she hired Nick, he drives a taxi, and smells divine. Seems like Nick Stephanos can keep Amanda's meddlesome friends satisfied and get the marriage aversion solved all at the same time.
The problem with hiring a fiancé is what to do with him if you fall for him -- hard. Amanda believes that he's in it for the money. After all, the job pays fairly well, and he's accompanying a sexy woman complete with short skirts and spike heals. Not much more a guy could want. Except for one thing. If he's not in it for the money, then why did he agree to this job?
Pamela Burford succeeds again with class, grace, and humor! The Wedding Ring miniseries is a smash success, and ends with a terrific bang! The plot rocks, the characters sizzle, and the humor abounds. Not much more a demanding romance reader can ask for! If I could give more than Very highly recommended, I certainly would. Indeed, WordWeaving.com occasionally gives awards for excellent novels, but this is the first series to win the honor. With This Ring, I Thee Dread ReviewIn the first couple of chapters I wasn't sure I would like this book. The heroine was a bit of a man-hater and the hero was a bit of a wimp. Obviously their parents agreed with me. They blackmail them into an arranged marriage and an isolated four month honeymoon in a cabin the middle of the Alaskan wilderness with no outside contact. Away from the distractions of modern life, they have a lot of time to think. Through this four month period they learn things about each other and about themselves. Since they are 30 and 27 year old virgins, sex is not a part of the learning process which is refreshing in a romantic novel. Sunny's charming transformation of the bride passively waiting for Prince Charming to discovering one's own abilities makes ONE EAGER BRIDE TO GO a wonderful read. The frequent reminders of previous books, and the tantalizing glimpse at the last unmarried Wedding Ring partner also lends a depth and warmth to the novel, making it wonderful in its own right, while richer and fuller as part of the series. These characters are both memorable and uniquely individual. I can't wait for the last book of the miniseries, FIANCÉ FOR HIRE. The Ring on Her Finger ReviewI have enjoyed Ms. Bevarly's other books, but this one seemed to fall a little short. While her other books had the characters interacting, this endeavor failed in that area. We were constantly reading what the characters were thinking and at times it got very repetative. I like to see the main characters do some verbal sparing. I think that reveals more about the character. The ending was a bit too contrived too. Everyone was mad one second and then hunky dory the next. I hope Ms. Bevarly's next offering raises the bar.The Ring on Her Finger Overview

With This Ring, I Thee Dread: A Contemporary Romantic Comedy ReviewTypically people aren't forced into marriage in this day very often. But that did happen for Ryan and Elizabeth. Their harsh reality of being forced to marry and live together in the Alaskan wilderness for four months is appalling to both parties. Elizabeth hates Ryan for his behavior during grade school. Ryan hates Elizabeth for her coldness toward him. Both learn that there were other forces at work in their relationships and their hatred is replaced by friendship. Of course, it all works out in the end. It wouldn't be a romance novel if that didn't happen!
The book is a delight to read! It didn't take me long at all to get caught up in the story, eager to see what would happen with every turn of a page. Ruth Ann Nordin brings to light a rare situation where two people who are forced to be together do come around to like and even love one another. Her style is fun and exciting to read! I can't wait to delve into other works by this fun and exciting author!With This Ring, I Thee Dread: A Contemporary Romantic Comedy Overview

SEALed with a Ring ReviewI really enjoyed this book. It is the third in the series and is the best so far in my opinion. I loved the hero, David. He was a very real, very human character who made mistakes and grew and learned. The author did a good job making him a strong and sexy man who was also gentle while not being sickly sweet perfect. The heroine, JJ, was a strong woman who needed a strong man. Anyone less she would have just walked over. Still, she wasn't a ball breaker. She had fears and insecurities that her relationship with David helped her overcome. Their relationship grew over time and was not one of those "we met last Tuesday, saved the world from annihilation and fell in love by Saturday" kind of stories. You really believe that this is a relationship which will last.
The writing was very well done. The dialog was strong. The love scences were good, hot without being offensive and not overpowering the story line. Characters from the other 2 books showed up but didn't have their own scenes which I liked. I like to see old friends but their stories have been told. This is not one of those authors who can't seem to let go of old characters and has to continually write scences from their POV in later books.
I liked the SEAL details. She sprinkled them in without an info dump and didn't write as if the reader had never heard of a SEAL and had to be told everything about them. The only thing I wondered about was JJ being so rich and so prominent in high society from owning a car dealership. I will admit that I know nothing about either car dealerships or the junior league set so maybe that's all realistic too.
I really enjoyed it and if you like good love stories with SEALs in them, I think you will too.SEALed with a Ring Overview

Heartstrings and Diamond Rings ReviewHurrah! Jane Graves is back to her excellent form in this brand-new book....well, brand-new except for the fact that we loyal readers were introduced to the heroine a few books ago and some of us (including this loyal reader) had written to Jane asking for Alison's story. Here it is and it's a doozy. Funny, warm, delightful plot, lots of empathy.....and some terrific zingers. I have to admit that I wasn't a fan of Bernadette and Jeremy in "Black Ties and Lullabies"; they were neither likable nor believable. In this one, we have three-dimensional, conflicted but very likable hero and heroine. And, as a plus, Heather and Tony (from "Tall Tales and Wedding Veils") are back to play supporting roles.
I should mention that this book obviously takes place today, more or less. There are many references to the drop in the housing market, slow-down of real estate development and other current matters. I liked that as it anchored the book in the here and now. The matchmaking elements of the plot also refer to the real organizations that do this and that, too, makes it feel more real. This is not to say that Jane hasn't used prodigious amounts of creativity; she has, and the book is all the better for both reality and originality.
Highly recommended if you like your romance books with more depth, lots of humor and excellent writing.Heartstrings and Diamond Rings Overview

The Wolf Ring (an erotic/erotica paranormal romance) ReviewNo SPOILERS or plot summaries. Recommendations included.
HIGH LEVEL: This is a short story that reads like the opening chapters of an over-dramatized paranormal romance. There was some magic: magical ring, legend of werewolves come to life in a whimsical way. Overall, however, it was pretty unsatisfying.
SEXUAL CONTENT: While it is labeled as "erotic" - there was really only one scene of lust and it was just OK. It was sexy in a desperate kind of way, but felt incomplete.
PLOT & CHARACTERS: Not really much plot and the story was so short that pacing was irrelevant. Mostly this was just incomplete. It read like a vignette, not a story. The characters were undeveloped, though the man was intriguing. It might have been fun to get to know him better through a longer story.
BOTTOM LINE: This story is one word: HARMLESS. Nothing really to it, but nothing terribly against it except that it was too short. If this had been developed into a real book, it might have turned out to be "just ok." As it is, though- not worth reading.
