The Sword (The Sword, the Ring, and the Chalice, Book 1) Review_The Sword_ is the first of a high-fantasy trilogy and is little more than a prologue for whatever follows. What I mean by that is this: in terms of actual plot development, very little happens here. Each paperback in this trilogy is about 400 pages long (1200 total), so this could easily have been a 2-book saga with little to no impact on its quality.
As for the story itself ... There are some books you can read when you're tired, some you can't, and some that just make you tired. At its best, this book falls into the first category; at its worst, in the third. The writing is clear but rough and unremarkable (much more telling than showing, especially where character emotions are concerned, not one clever simile or metaphor), while the plot is uneven and filled with numerous, extended chase and fight sequences that create a sense of deja vu. (Other reviews here describe the plot, so I won't, except to express complete disappointment with the climax, in which the hero saves the day not through his own talents but through, not just one, but two instances of deus ex machina.) Two sub-plot threads are interspersed with the main one; however, the female protagonists in those receive so little stage-time that one can only hope their actions will actually mean something later in the trilogy.
The book's one strength is its ability to keep you wanting to know what happens next, which is certainly a literary virtue. However, few to none of the other ones (style, plausibility, insight, etc.) are present here. I strongly recommend _A Game of Thrones_ by George Martin or _The Briar King_ by Greg Keyes instead of this (though this one does contain a lesser degree of sexual content, if not violence, than those very fine tales). That said, if you're looking for a fantasy book to distract yourself during a long plane ride, this one would probably work. 2-1/2 disappointed stars. The Sword (The Sword, the Ring, and the Chalice, Book 1) Overview

The ABCs of Erotica - Volume 1: A - C (Anal Beach Cock Ring) ReviewI like the cover, it's not too smutty, like some of the ass shot on Amazon, *rolls eyes* it has a tasteful amount of hotness, naughtiness and something to expect, like knowing it's going to be a saucy read. I've read a good amount of Ms. Mallory's erotica and it's up to bar with my favorites, with realistic dialogue, emotions and none of the tackiness that can be found in the erotica genre when written bad. Mallory writes exceptionally naughty, but tastefully!
The stories in The ABCs so far are all climbs into a beginning or middle of story - there small amount of introduction to the story before the actual love/sex scene, these just pretty much dive in. ;) The stories are short, and very much all about erotica.
A is for Anal is a short novella that introduces Grace one uptight, prim and proper business woman to the pleasures of sex by her new colleague/boyfriend, and not just any sex because Michael wants to show Grace just enjoyable little behind play can be. Short, to the point, sexy and little naughty, but in just the right way. It's a free read so go check it out at Amazon!
B is for Beach is another short story, Erica and Ben have been dating online for a while, when they finally meet after all the nervousness they hit it off and after dinner walk on the beach gets naughty. The story was okay, but I would have liked to have heard more from Ben, who kept pretty quiet.
C is for Cock ring. Now I actually read D is for Domination before this so I knew about Mistress Ven and her brand spanking new submissive ( bun intended ;) ). Though graphic, this one was better than D I think, the submissive questioning if what's going on is too early, but ending up quite pleased. This is for BDSM readers, including spanking, the aforementioned cock ring and more. The ABCs of Erotica - Volume 1: A - C (Anal Beach Cock Ring) Overview

Put a Ring on It: A Novel (Zane Presents) ReviewPut a Ring on It: A Novel is about three friends desperate to walk down the aisle. This novel showcases clearly how distressed they are to have a husband, even if that means their marriage will be miserable. Each of these women has issues, each worse than the others. We observe these want-to-be brides go after what they want, and the obstacles in their way.
Harlow is certainly the most likable of the three as she had a hard life, and does not do anything highly disagreeable. Harlow was raised in the foster care system after her drug addicted mother, Jody, died before her eyes. The things Jody subjected Harlow to as a young child, were heinous and incomprehensible. Harlow is tortured inside by keeping her sordid past to herself, but she is terrified that telling her wealthy boyfriend Drake will have him recoiling in disgust, and running for the hills. She is extremely hopeful that a proposal is on the horizon, but wonders if he will actually still love her and go through with a wedding after she reveals her true self.
Single mom Vangie is struggling to keep her household afloat and is increasingly growing frustrated with the struggles of raising her son alone. His father, Shawn, left her for another woman soon after their son Yuri was born, and Vangie has grown used to him not paying child support, and infrequently dropping by unannounced to visit. Suddenly and completely unexpectedly, Shawn does a one eighty and becomes a responsible father as well as a loving boyfriend. Vangie does not waste any time falling back in love with him, and the second they start functioning like a family again she demands they marry. They seem to finally have a good thing going, but will she ruin it with her incessant obsession to have a ring?
Nivea Nivea Nivea, the most troubled soul of them all. She seems to have a psychotic break after finding out her fiancé has a secret baby on the side. To begin with, she was settling for less just to finally be married, but it is still a huge shock when initially she is willing to forgive him for the sake of not canceling their wedding plans. After being devastated by this news, Nivea starts down a path of drunken demolition that gains momentum as engagements and happy news is announced by friends and family. Rebelling promiscuously, no man is off limits, not even her little sister's man. Intelligent, successful, and poised, Nivea becomes unrecognizable as life as she knows slowly spirals out of control.
There is more than meets the eye with these enthrallingly crafted characters. Unimaginable drama, and twist and turns wait between the pages of this read. This novel is not solely about three women's campaign of marriage, as one might think. The story lines flow in several directions as we are introduced to innumerable characters, all the while engrossing and, as cliché as it might sound, page turning. The author did a great job, and without a doubt there will be a part two.Put a Ring on It: A Novel (Zane Presents) Overview

The Invisible Ring (Black Jewels, Book 4) ReviewI read the Black Jewels trilogy when it first came out and thought it was about the best thing I'd read in a long time. Now Ms. Bishop comes out with The Invisible Ring, a story set in the same world as the trilogy, but hundreds of years before.
What some of the other reviews have suggested is that the characters weren't as well developed and they felt a bit "let down". Keep in mind that this is a *standalone* book and so Ms. Bishop did not have 3 books to develop characters. Also, only 2 of the same characters from the trilogy show up in Ring, and I think some were expecting something along the same thing. Don't listen to them! This book takes place essentially over a few weeks or months, NOT many years as the trilogy.
Others have already written about the plot, so I won't go into that here. Ms. Bishop has a website that has an excerpt of The Invisible Ring posted, so I suggest that you go read that for yourself!...The Invisible Ring (Black Jewels, Book 4) Overview

The Wolf Ring (an erotic/erotica paranormal romance) ReviewNo SPOILERS or plot summaries. Recommendations included.
HIGH LEVEL: This is a short story that reads like the opening chapters of an over-dramatized paranormal romance. There was some magic: magical ring, legend of werewolves come to life in a whimsical way. Overall, however, it was pretty unsatisfying.
SEXUAL CONTENT: While it is labeled as "erotic" - there was really only one scene of lust and it was just OK. It was sexy in a desperate kind of way, but felt incomplete.
PLOT & CHARACTERS: Not really much plot and the story was so short that pacing was irrelevant. Mostly this was just incomplete. It read like a vignette, not a story. The characters were undeveloped, though the man was intriguing. It might have been fun to get to know him better through a longer story.
BOTTOM LINE: This story is one word: HARMLESS. Nothing really to it, but nothing terribly against it except that it was too short. If this had been developed into a real book, it might have turned out to be "just ok." As it is, though- not worth reading.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Vivian Arend's Wolf Signs: Granite Lake Wolves, Book 1 fun, light were-romance series
2. Vivian Arend's Tidal Wave: Forces of Nature, Book 1- with frolicking dolphins
3. Dana Marie Bell's Dare to Believe (The Gray Court) - sexy, humorous para-romance with all manner of fae: Sidhe, dragons, leprechauns, vampires and more
4. Kresley Cole's slightly more adventurous and intricate magical romance series (never mind the ridiculous title): A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, Book 1)
5. Jacquelyn Frank's Jacob (The Nightwalkers, Book 1) - demons, were, vamps and other fae finding their better halves in races that should be the enemy
6. Marie Harte's Rachel's Totem - lighter, less developed para-erotica featuring a variety of shifters in a quirky little town
7. Moira Rogers' basic werewolf romance series: Cry Sanctuary: Book 1 of Red Rock Pass series
8. Moira Rogers' magically diverse romance series Crux: Southern Arcana, Book 1
9. Nalini Singh's Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changelings, Book 1) - romance series which features weres and psychics, but also carries plotlines with some substance
10. Sydney Somers' gargoyle spin on romance: Primal Hunger: Pendragon Gargoyles, Book 1The Wolf Ring (an erotic/erotica paranormal romance) OverviewWhen Conner gives his girlfriend an antique ring, things between them get unexpectedly... wild.Warnings: Explicit sex, blunt languageLength: Short story (7200 words)

The Ring ReviewBook size: novella, max location 1973.
Roy works at an office that has a lot of young and beautiful women. Roy has fantasies about all of them but could never do anything about it. He liked to buy weird, cheap things off of the internet and came across the ring one day. He doesn't really expect it to work but gives it a try anyway. Roy is blown away to discover that the ring actually works. He can see peoples memories, desires, fantasies, and manipulate them. He sets out to change all of the women in his office into his own personal sex toys.
I really liked the concept of a ring that can basically control peoples minds. What guy wouldn't want to have this ring and do all the things he has fantasized about doing? There is a wide variety of sex to keep the reader interested. There is even a little bit of fisting which is a bit hard to find even in erotica books. I loved seeing Roy implant his own desires into the girls heads until there were his own personal sex toys.
What I didn't like was how toward the end he started sharing the girls and using them to make money and connections. The end is also pretty ridiculous. He gains so much power, control, and influence that eventually he rules the world. This seemed pretty stupid to me but I guess the author thought that this was a good way to end the story. I have read three of this authors books and have noticed some significant grammar errors in most of them. It is noticeable to the point that I started to wonder a time or two if this author even proof reads or edits the books before having them published.
All in all it is an incredible book and I recommend it to anybody into this kind of erotica. The Ring OverviewWhat if you had a ring which could control minds? What if you were a middle aged man who worked in a busy office with young, beautiful girls, and were filled with fantasies about them? What if you could suddenly influence their minds into carrying out your fantasies wherever and whenever you wanted? Roy is just such a man. At first he is in disbelief over the power of the ring, but as he fumbles his way into more and more control over the lovely young women around him he begins to make his fantasies their fantasies. Swamping their minds with lust, passion and desire, he makes his workplace into a hedonistic fantasy paradise. Perfecting his control over them, he has them quit work and abandon boyfriends,, sending them to work for him at strip clubs, to give all their money to the man they love. As Roy comes to perfect his control over the ring no woman is safe from him, overcome by their own desire as he enslaves them, not with ropes and chains, but with their own passion, hunger and need..
